The town of Rocky Mountain House in Alberta, Canada, is a site of important historic interest in the fur trade. Established in 1799 by the Northwest Company, RMH was the base camp for "The Mapmaker", David Thompson, who in 1807 and later years explored west to the Pacific Ocean. The town is celebrating the bicentennial of Thompson's activities in the area (2008-2011).
